Hubby’s Hoodie – The search for buttons

Posted by 2ton Inspired on October 31, 2007

Over the summer I started working on a sleeveless hoodie-vest for my husband D. I had been making so many things for myself and other family members that I thought it was time for D to be upgraded from hat status to wearable garment.

I searched online for various sweaters and hoodies that I thought he might like to no avail. And then I showed him the mens shirt in the green issue of Knit.1. Score! It was manly enough. There were no other patterns in the magazine that warranted a purchase so I sneakily took a picture and disected.

After much measuring, searching for the right diamond lace pattern and swatches I CO. I worked on it on and off over the summer but finally put the finishing touches on it a few weeks ago.

The last thing it needs is the buttons and then it hit me, “OMG I forgot to make button holes!” Of course my husband just looked at me and said, “You could do those dangley buttons that have the loops?” So now we’re on the hunt for the right toggle buttons. So far we’ve been out of luck but I’m still hopeful.

Vickie Howell Podcast

Posted by 2ton Inspired on October 30, 2007

I just read about Vickie Howell’s podcast premiering this week (Nov. 1)! I use to be able to catch Knitty Gritty on HGTV in the mornings but the lineup changed and we don’t have DIY network. Now I can get my fix through my iPod!

Twinkle Hoodie

Posted by 2ton Inspired on October 29, 2007

Who doesn’t love the perfect cold weather hoodie?

This was a super quick project. Going the el cheapo creative route, I used Lion Brands A Pound of Love in Denim quadruple stranded (low budget but it does require some patience and mad skillz to re-wind the balls into quadruple strands).

I also decided to go the creative route with the buttons and made my own using the stiff mesh, some interfacing and mini 12×12 ss st squares. Not only do they match perfectly but I didn’t have to spend time searching out those 1.5 inch buttons!

Surprisingly the only modifications I made were to the sleeves (longer) and I skipped the pockets. No need to add extra bulk in there! Ok, so I got stuck on the pocket part of the pattern and scratched it. Either way I like the way it turned out sans pockets.

Kangaroo Tunic – Going under the knife

Posted by 2ton Inspired on October 26, 2007

This was finished almost two months ago and even though it’s gotten cold enough to wear I haven’t found the right way to wear this. The obvious choice is a long sleeved tee-shirt, but in what color? White doesn’t quite go well with the cream, light pink doesn’t match at all, black would be too opposite. A light brown I suppose would be OK but that would require me to search out one at the stores.

Today while roaming around Target (I was good and didn’t buy anything that wasn’t on my list!) I saw a few hoodies with ribbed sleeves. I’m thinking of trying that out on this sweater. Basically taking out the pink ribbed trim and add cream colored ribbed sleeves. Quarter length I think.

The more I think about it the more I think I’ll wear it with the sleeves. Hmm… maybe thinner sleeves then the body since the body was quadruple yarn….

I don’t know what possesses me to knit sleeveless sweaters.

Sk8er Booties

Posted by 2ton Inspired on October 24, 2007

Having owned a few pair of Converse sneakers in my life I couldn’t resist the challenge of creating a knitted pair after seeing some crocheted ones. It took a few tries and many mis-matched sizes before I was able to make two of the same and be satisfied with the pattern.

Although there are quite a few ends to weave in and some seaming to do I will definitely make more of these in all sorts of colors. Eventually I think I will change the pattern to work in the round to avoid the seaming. But for now I’m quite pleased with myself for defeating the pattern!
