Turtle Babies

Posted by 2ton Inspired on January 3, 2008

The turtle family is growing! Two are just visitors but they make a handsome bunch, don’t they?

Blueberries and Strawberries were introduced a few months ago. The green ones are going to be adopted by a friend for a swap. I’m not sure how the big green one is so much larger then Blueberries because I used the same pattern. I must have lost count somewhere. Even the legs are longer!

I love the color combination of the greens. I tried to over stuff the shell so it wouldn’t fall over on its face but didn’t put enough. I had to leave out a lot of stuffing for the head which makes it squishy.

After finishing the big green one I thought it would be cute to make a baby one since my friend is expecting. I reduced the pattern by half and the little one was born. During the assembling process I figured out that it’s a combination of stuffing weight and where the legs are placed that help them stand straight. The front legs need to line up to where the head is attached.

And in an effort to deter my husband from claiming the baby turtle as his, I made the red and black one. His name is Spike. The babies are great to make because they go by pretty fast It took about an hour and half to make the pieces. It was tricky with the short stubby legs so it took me awhile to assemble.
