First Socks

Posted by 2ton Inspired on June 17, 2008

For awhile now I’ve been wanting to try my hand at knitting a pair of socks. When I saw the Two Tone Socks (Ravelry link) pattern in Debbie Bliss’ Simply Baby book I knew the time had come. Although I haven’t fallen in love with sock knitting I do have to admit they were pretty interesting to make and it was nice to see them take on their shape at the heel. I’m sure there are a million ways of making socks and this pattern was just one of the ways. I think I may graduate up to adult socks in the future.

The instructions were easy to follow and although it required size 3 needles the project went pretty fast. I was able to finish 3/4 of the second sock in an evening. The first pair took about 2 days but I didn’t spend that much time each day. Plus the first time following a pattern always takes longer.

The yarn I used, Knit Picks Shine Sport, were initially for a pair of fingerless gloves but I knew it would be the best yarn in my stash for these socks. They’re soft and have a nice sheen. The colors look great together too, I think they contrast just enough.
