One of my new favorite bands, Nada Surf, played last night at First Avenue (yep the club made infamous by Prince and Purple Rain). As usual hearing the band, heck any band, live is is amazing. We were blessed by the addition of a 4th musician and friend of the band that was able to join them for the week. This 4th musician played trumpet, keyboard, sang vocals and probably many more things my untrained ears didn’t pick up.
Being small Asian girls we squeezed our way up front and were lucky enough to get jostled (people pushing and then some people left in the middle!) into the 2nd row. Unfortunately behind a very tall guy (see him on the right side of the picture above?) and others kept trying to get in in front of us because we needed the space to look around him!
I didn’t take a lot of pictures because not too many others were and I didn’t want to blind the band with my flash. We had a really great spot in front of Matthew though so it was fun to just watch, listen and enjoy.
I thought it was cute how the bassist, Daniel, was just chilling out while he waited for his part. What amazed me the most about him though was his ability to sing while smoking. Literally, the cigarette was hanging out of his mouth while he sang!
Check em out at http://www.myspace.com/nadasurf to hear a few of their songs. They’ve a few more cities to play in, so check em out if you can!
